What should i do with this guy?

i'm seeing this man for 9 months whom until now wouldn't make our relationship an exclusive one. He asked me to move in with him at 3 months but i thought then that would be a little bit short of a time to jump into something like that. We would constantly fight for petty things, i admit i'm insecure bec we're not exclusive but he said to me once or twice that he loves me(he started saying that on our 6th month of seeing each other) but it puzzles me bec he doesn't see me very often( once or twice in two weeks). Isn't it that if you love someone you just couldn't survive even a day or two without seeing that person? He's very inconsistent in some ways like there would be months that he's very distant but still would be seeing me at his convenience and some days where he's good and very attentive. He knows how I feel about him as I'm always very honest with my feelings. Right now we're not on speaking terms again bec I pissed him off with my jealous streak then I found out he lost his custody battle recently and no matter how much i communicate with him, he has ignored me. What should I do? Do i need to try some more and make him feel that i care for him and would be there for him esp in times like this or should i leave him alone for now and make him think things over and decide what he really wants. I love this man so much.
